Life in the Western Australia Police Force begins in the WA Police Academy.
Whether you're a cadet, recruit, or transitional officer, you'll complete paid training at the Police Academy campus in Joondalup, where our experienced academy trainers will be with you every step of the way, encouraging, supporting, and guiding you through your journey.
Training at the WA Police Academy is a full-time 28-week long commitment. Recruits completing their training are expected to present to the WA Police Academy for training during the business week from 0800hrs to 1600hrs, regardless of public holidays.
During your 28-weeks of training, you'll earn an annual salary plus superannuation which is paid to you fortnightly.
On the first day at the WA Police Academy, you will join a squad of other recruits. Together you'll navigate new experiences, overcome any challenges and celebrate accomplishments as part of a team.
The WA Police Academy is located at 81 Lakeside Dr, Joondalup WA 6027, next to the campuses of ECU Joondalup and North Metropolitan TAFE.
The WA Police Academy is accessible via car, bus and train. Limited street parking is available. The WA Police Academy is about a 15-minute walk from the Joondalup Train Station or alternatively the 466 bus runs from the train station and stops at several locations along Lakeside Drive.
During your Recruitment process, you'll be required to complete the Physical Performance Evaluation (PPE). This stage of recruitment aims to evaluate your fitness to complete training at the WA Police Academy, and make sure you are ready for the physical demands required.

Yes. However, approval will be given only if it maintains the integrity of the the WA Police Force, operational capabilities and workplace safety plus avoids any real or perceived conflict of interest with police duties and responsibilities. Applications for certain occupations that are considered 'high risk' will only be approved in exceptional circumstances.
Yes. All successful applicants, whether you are a Cadet, Police Officer (Entry-Level), Police Auxiliary Officer or an interstate/overseas transitional Police Officer will be paid while training at the WA Police Academy.
We suggest holding off on any study commitments until you have finished your academy training. Once you become a Police Officer there are many additional opportunities for development and study.
As part of the recruitment process, applicants will complete the Physical Performance Evaluation (PPE). The PPE tests applicants to see if they have a reasonable level of fitness, and will be able to successfully complete their training at the WA Police Academy.

Due to the rigorous training program, it is not possible to take time off during your training at the WA Police Academy.
It is expected during the training period that recruits do not take any personal leave, unless otherwise approved.
There are no expectations to have prior knowledge or a level of understanding of any specific topics before you start training. Everyone will start at the same level, covering the same topics.
You can! However, it is expected that you do not disclose any information about questions you may be asked during the process, or any information which may risk your application.
It is expected that any information that is confidential, or that could compromise the integrity of the WA Police Force, is not shared with civilians, including family and friends.
