Ready to swap your school uniform for a blue one?

The WA Police Force turned heads and sparked conversations at last November's Leavers celebrations with our "Let’s Join Forces" recruitment campaign. By connecting with young people in a fun and approachable way, the campaign aimed to inspire the next generation of police officers to take their first steps toward a rewarding and impactful career.

From Busselton's wristband collection point to the lively Zone and Beach Fest, the teams were on the ground engaging directly with school leavers and planting seeds of interest in cadet and entry-level police officer roles.

WHY SCHOOL LEAVERS?

With over 9,000 school leavers attending the festivities, the recruitment team saw an ideal audience for their message.

“This is a perfect cohort to reach. We need people who are great at problem-solving (because navigating friend drama is a skill) and quick-thinking people (because coming up with a decent excuse for not doing homework takes talent).”

MORE THAN JUST A JOB: BUILDING CONNECTIONS

The day was a chance to break down barriers between young people and police officers. South West Police Officers got involved in the fun, even joining Leavers in a friendly game of volleyball.

Probationary Constable Nicholas Arndt reflected on the experience:

“What a tough day at the office... but seriously, this is a great opportunity to engage with young people and encourage them to think about a career with us.”

INSPIRED BY THE CONNECTION

The positive interactions didn’t go unnoticed by the Leavers. One 17-year-old attendee, Ashley, shared her thoughts:

“It’s nice to actually get the chance to talk to the cops. You realise they’re just people doing a job to look after us. I could see myself doing this too.”
