Deep cultural roots and connection to Country gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples a unique perspective in their work with the WA Police Force. The ability to communicate effectively across communities and understand the complexities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences provides immense benefit in policing, building trust in situations where others may struggle to connect.

As a result, the WA Police Force offers dedicated pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, to facilitate their involvement and build a team representing community and culture on the frontlines.

Community Liaison Officers

Community Liaison Officers support frontline policing and Aboriginal communities by strengthening partnerships, improving safety, and providing culturally respectful guidance. Community Liaison Officers encourage positive engagement and collaboration between the Police Force and Aboriginal Community to promote greater safety and reduction in crime. In a culturally safe manner, they assist and guide both Aboriginal people and Police, during critical and arising community issues.

Community Liaison Officers cover the Regional WA Police Districts of the Goldfields, Kimberely, Mid-West, Pilbara, South-West and Wheatbelt.

Custody Support Officers

Custody Support Officers play an important role in supporting Police Officers with the safe admission, custody, and release of detainees at the Perth Watch House or station lockups.

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the ability to bring cultural understanding and lived experience to this environment is of significant value, both to the WA Police Force and to the people they serve.

The WA Police Force is committed to building a team that truly reflects the communities it serves. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, joining the WA Police Force means bringing your culture, your voice, and your connection to Country and community into a role where it matters most.
